Calico invites you to join us for a weekend of wintry festivity with a vast selection of affordable artworks. Approximately 100 pieces to choose from will be shown by artists from Brooklyn and beyond. All works will be priced at $300 or less and ready to wrap at this salon-style show. Our friends down the hall at Fowler Arts Collective will simultaneously host a postcard-sized works exhibit, and on Saturday, the Greenpointers Holiday Market will be happening downstairs. This is one-stop-shopping for local and unique Holiday gift ideas.

Come to the opening party on Friday to mix and mingle with exhibiting artists. The gallery will be open on Saturday and Sunday from Noon - 6pm each day.

Established in 2008 by Overkill Studio, “Paint it Now” makes its Philadelphia debut in May of 2012 at the long-standing arts hub, Space 1026. This ever evolving multi-city exhibition of site specific painting installations will include a roster of 20+ local and international artists.

Fusing individual exhibition and collaboration, “Paint it Now” invites participating artists to paint solely in opaque black paint directly on the white wall surfaces of the gallery over the course of a week. The outcome is a visually graphic, completely unified installation which surrounds the viewer with an immense narrative of imagery. By controlling basic parameters of paint color, painting surface, and project timeframe, the curators aim to not only unite the work of participating artists, but the artists themselves.

Three previous “Paint it Now” exhibits in Boston and Brooklyn have showed a continued momentum of participation, public reception, and press. Thomas Buildmore and Scott Chasse are both contributing artists who met in Boston where they formed the partnership which produces this series of exhibits. By pairing up with local community-based arts entities in each city, the show draws upon local talent while integrating artists from outside the area in an effort to foster communication on a broader scale and to create a unique temporary exhibition pinpointing what it means to “Paint it Now.”

Construct Destruct. New works by Chris Clark at Stupid Easy

Construct Destruct, Chris Clark’s first solo exhibition with Stupid Easy Gallery, debuts Saturday, September 24th .

Clark uses a mix of spray paint stenciling, screen printing, collage and painting to create environments that are rich in depth and texture. His work explores the relationship between the natural world and technology. It suggests a certain tension between the two elements, creating an energy that is both kinetic and foreboding.

Organic and manufactured forms along with portions of text and images from blueprints & diagrams are fantastically layered to create environments that feel engineered and beautifully toxic. The objects could be anywhere, and the complex physically worked surfaces can become so dense that there is little room for anything else. His blending of organic forms with manufactured surfaces suggests technology run amok and a natural world in accelerated flux. His richly layered and obsessively detailed environments leave you with a feeling of being taken out of time as well as out of place.
