Established in 2008 by Overkill Studio, “Paint it Now” makes its Philadelphia debut in May of 2012 at the long-standing arts hub, Space 1026. This ever evolving multi-city exhibition of site specific painting installations will include a roster of 20+ local and international artists.
Fusing individual exhibition and collaboration, “Paint it Now” invites participating artists to paint solely in opaque black paint directly on the white wall surfaces of the gallery over the course of a week. The outcome is a visually graphic, completely unified installation which surrounds the viewer with an immense narrative of imagery. By controlling basic parameters of paint color, painting surface, and project timeframe, the curators aim to not only unite the work of participating artists, but the artists themselves.
Three previous “Paint it Now” exhibits in Boston and Brooklyn have showed a continued momentum of participation, public reception, and press. Thomas Buildmore and Scott Chasse are both contributing artists who met in Boston where they formed the partnership which produces this series of exhibits. By pairing up with local community-based arts entities in each city, the show draws upon local talent while integrating artists from outside the area in an effort to foster communication on a broader scale and to create a unique temporary exhibition pinpointing what it means to “Paint it Now.”
